I arrived at Web design after long and varied careers as a wildlife biologist, outdoor instructor, computer whiz, and foremost, a writer.
My science and outdoor training filled me with a sense of wonder, giving me a deep respect for and interest in the complexity of our natural world. A fascination with computers built on those skills and added another: how to work in a beautiful medium with many kinds of tools to create both graceful yet functional designs. Finally, my love of words and respect for written and visual communication led to the publication of four nationally acclaimed books, one of which was a finalist for the 1994 PEN West Award and named in the Top Ten Books of the Year by the Seattle Times.

I'm particularly skilled at writing and editing Web content, utilizing the precise and economical language demanded by today's Web visitor, and helping my clients realize their Web goals. My specialty is public interest, nonprofit Websites—particularly for environmental and community service nonprofits and green business.
