Big Doings at your Fremont County Library System


Do you know that the Fremont County Library Board has begun a two-phase project—Library Improvements For Tomorrow (LIFT)—to bring its libraries into the twenty-first century? Our goal is to bring together funding and volunteers to realize our dream of a renewed and expanded library system.


Phase I was projected to cost approximately $500,000 for which we submitted a matching grant application to the State Lands Board. We were not successful in our application; however, we:


Phase II is devoted to the main Fremont County Library in Lander. Since this is the oldest library building in the county, it needs major renovation and expansion (view the plans). Our goals are:

Forty-two percent of Wyoming homes do not have a computer and of those that do, 49 percent do not have internet access. Our libraries provide both computers and internet access to county residents—a critical community service in this information age.


Phase II will cost over 5 million dollars. The County Commissioners asked the Library system to spend 2005 raising funds and getting our community involved. Next year the Commissioners and Library Board will be looking at ways to fund the Lander Project with county funds, grants, and other revenue sources.
